ARTICLE ABOUT Suzi Quatro FROM Sounds, January 29, 1977

Suzi went to France and recorded this album that were 50% songs written by other people and 50% written by Suzi herself and Len Tuckey. Didn`t do much in the charts except for a No. 27 placing in the UK for the Chinn-Chapman written song “Tear Me Apart”. Three stars may have been fair.

Suzi Quatro: “Aggro-Phobia” (Rak SRAK 525) ***

Album review by Vivien Goldman

IF THIS was V.A. Goldman’s Weekly, instead of SOUNDS the Rock Mag, I’d give ‘Aggro-Phobia’ less stars than the Black Dyke Mills Band. But since it is SOUNDS, I’ve given ‘Aggro-Phobia’ three stars on the basis that it’s an above-average, varied, well-groomed rock’n’roll record of the middle 70’s.
All of which goes to prove that rock’n’roll of the trad variety, like Quatro’s, like the Doobs, is less relevant and thought-provoking than those bulky sanitary towels that we’ve all discarded in favour of liberating streamlined tampons.
If Suzi were only more AGGRO-PHOBIC. Where’s that ol` mutant technology? She needs a hefty shot of Eno to perk up her enzymes.
True, there’s a more rounded, varied persona at work — you can tell by the way some songs are faster than others.
But moody versions of ‘Heartbreak Hotel’, and speeded-up versions of ‘Wake Up Little Susie’, even when coupled with engagingly frank soul-searchings like ‘American Lady’, are nothing to pass up ‘The Archers’ for.
Most Interesting Cut: the only Mike Chapman track on this return to Mickie Most, ‘What’s It Like To Be Loved’. Buzzing electronic organ intro, Northern Soul manic pulse, a chorus of chanting monks drone behind crazed vocals.
